Food for thought
Most people are omnivores, eating plants and animals (i.e. vegetables and meat) Doesn't anyone find it rather cruel to be eating them? At least for eating animal that is.
When watching animal planet, you turn your head away in disgust, not wanting to watch the cheetah tear the deer apart, savouring the meat, with blood all over its mouth. "Ouch!" you exclaimee, feeling the pain for the deer. "Poor thing" you commented, sympathising the deer. But aren't we all guilty of the same thing?
You gush at the cute little pig plush toy not because you like pigs. You hold the little chick in your hand, stroking it, not because you like chickens. You feed grass to the goats and cows at the zoo not because you like them. Go ahead and violently object. If you love them, would you eat them? Would you eat your spouse as well if he or she was the only meat left? Surely not? We're humans, not spiders or praying mantis.
Animals are reared, gorged with food, so much so that they're too full to move, in the hope that they'll grow bigger, fetching more money at the market. Since birth, they are sentenced with a death sentence. There is no way they can escape. Imagine being led by a leash and you know where you're headed -- the abattoir. Yikes! At least animals in the wild have a chance of survival even though they're hunted.
As for plants, they do not move and we do not communicate with them. Imagine if they were able to move, do you think they will stay rooted to the ground (literally) of run for their dear life when faced with danger? I believe the latter is the rational choice.
Think it over.

hmmm.well.are you suggesting we dont eat at all?
if we dont eat animals:
-there will populate too fast.simply there's no such thing as birth control in their world
-there's no enough land to contain them all, shd we kill ourselves to make space for them?eating them or killing ourselves more logical?
-in zoos, we dont feed them grass cause we find them cute.we do it cause some of them dont feed themselves.we are just being caring.
-well.i will hold little chicks in my hand.and i love chicken.cooked ones, that is.
-well.on animal planet.they eat it raw.we dont.so it's not the same.and i dun usually eat raw stuff.not even vege.
-and since we are different from spiders and praying mantis, we dont.we use money to buy food, u see.
-and everyone dies eventually you see.at least we save the earth by eating the remains.
-it's only fair.when we die, those buried will also be feeding some insects and bacteria full isnt it?

as for plants:
-they have to be at the start of the food chain right?
-besides.they are also eaten by animals.
so if we dont eat plant and animals,
what do we consume?
pills?
water?

then that's back to the point of us killing ourselves.
